Zhaparov also reacted to the tragedy, saying he learned “with deep sorrow” about the deadly incident.
“On behalf of the people of the Kyrgyz Republic and on my own behalf, I express my sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, sharing their grief at their loss, and I also wish a speedy recovery to all those injured,” Zhaparov said, according to the Kyrgyz presidential press service.
Reports stated that the explosion took place Friday evening at the Liushenyu coal mine in Qinyuan county, where 247 workers were underground when the blast occurred.
Emergency teams continued rescue operations at the site while authorities worked to determine the full scale of the disaster and search for missing workers.
An official investigation into the cause of the explosion has also been launched, according to reports.
