China, US Launch Joint Crackdown on Trafficking of Psychoactive Substances

(MENAFN) China and the United States have jointly dismantled a cross-border trafficking case involving new psychoactive substances, according to reports citing China’s Ministry of Public Security.

The ministry said the operation was launched in 2024 following cooperation between China’s narcotics control bureau and the US Drug Enforcement Administration under the Department of Justice.

As part of the investigation, Chinese police detained a suspect identified as Gong in Tianjin in February this year after receiving intelligence from US authorities, according to reports. In parallel developments, US officials had previously arrested an American suspect connected to the same network in the state of Georgia.

Authorities described the outcome as evidence of what they called the “institutionalized operation” of anti-drug law enforcement cooperation between Beijing and Washington, and said it represented another practical result of coordinated efforts against cross-border criminal activity.

They also stated that the case highlights what they described as the firm stance of both sides in maintaining “zero tolerance” toward drug-related and transnational crimes.
