Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for July 2026
MACAU, August 28 - Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments stood at 91.6% in July 2026, an uplift of 0.5 percentage points year-on-year. The rates for 5-star (94.2%) and 4-star hotels (90.3%) showed respective year-on-year growth of 0.2 percentage points and 3.8 percentage points, whereas the rate for 3-star hotels (85.5%) dropped by 1.5 percentage points.
Number of guests of hotel establishments went down by 4.3% year-on-year to 1,229,000 in July; those from the Chinese mainland (923,000) and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (145,000) decreased by 3.9% and 13.8% respectively. Meanwhile, international guests (89,000) increased by 9.5% year-on-year; among them, those from India (8,000), Thailand (8,000) and the USA (6,000) went up by 81.1%, 21.2% and 24.4% respectively, while those from the Republic of Korea (25,000) and Japan (5,000) fell by 3.0% and 7.7% respectively.
In July, number of inbound package tour visitors totalled 141,000, down by 6.7% year-on-year. Tour visitors from the Chinese mainland dropped by 7.2% year-on-year to 123,000.
In the first seven months of 2026, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments was 90.6%, up by 1.2 percentage points year-on-year. Number of guests decreased by 1.4% year-on-year to 8,367,000, of which international guests (753,000) rose by 12.2%. A total of 990,000 inbound package tour visitors were recorded in the first seven months, a fall of 11.4% year-on-year.
