Egypt, China Forge Deeper Strategic Collaboration

(MENAFN) Egypt and China pledged on Thursday to deepen collaboration across multiple sectors as President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi hosted Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Cairo for high-level discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

The talks, which brought together Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and senior officials from both nations, focused on enhancing economic ties and laying groundwork for the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and China, set for 2026, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.

Sisi reiterated Egypt’s dedication to advancing its comprehensive strategic partnership with Beijing, highlighting China's increasing involvement in Egypt’s national development projects. He signaled particular interest in drawing more Chinese investment into renewable energy, electric vehicle manufacturing, and tourism.

“China is a key partner in Egypt’s economic future,” Sisi stated, stressing the need for coordination on debt-swap arrangements and the efficient execution of bilateral agreements.

Premier Li shared a similar outlook, expressing China's intent to expand its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) cooperation with Egypt. He highlighted potential growth sectors including trade, finance, advanced manufacturing, clean energy, science and technology, and cultural exchange.

“We are willing to encourage more capable Chinese enterprises to invest in Egypt,” Li said, in remarks reported by a Chinese state-run news agency.

Li’s visit to Cairo began early Wednesday, marking the latest stop in his diplomatic tour following his participation in the 17th BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

China ranks among Egypt’s top trading partners, with bilateral commerce nearing $14 billion annually. The two countries have also strengthened military cooperation, holding their first joint air force drill in April.
